Make Delicious Marshmallows at Home

Marshmallows can make any party or snack treat delicious, but these white treats are often associated with guilt strips. Though low in fat, regular marshmallows are full of sugar. As you probably know, high consumption of sugar does no good to your body. In fact consumption of sugar is linked to many health problems including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, abnormal cholesterol levels, dental cavities and addiction.

Luckily, there is a healthier recipe for these marshmallows that deliver all the flavor without the malicious sugar. Cooking this is much easier than you think and if you have never made your own marshmallows, surely give it a try. They are much tastier than the store ones and are fun to make. Plus these are so fresh, it feels just like nibbling on a cloud.


Ingredients:

- ½ cup of cold water
- ½ cup raw honey
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ½ tsp gelatin
- Pinch of salt
- Oil for greasing.


How to cook:

- Gently brush a baking dish with oil.Cover it with parchment paper and the grease the paper properly.Set aside.

- Pour ¼ cup of water in a medium saucepan and sprinkle it with gelatin. Set aside to soften.

- In an another bowl, add the honey, salt and ¼ cup of water. Place over medium heat. Cook, covered for about 4 minutes.

- Remove the lid and attach a candy thermometer with a clip.Continue to cook till the mixture reaches 240 degrees. It usually takes 7-8 minutes.Remove from the heat.

- Carefully mix both the mixture using a hand mixer. For better results, drizzle the hot syrup from the side of the bowl.

- Add vanilla extract and beat for about 15 minutes till the mixture is properly thick. Scrape the mixture into the lined pan and let it settle uncovered for 4-8hours.

- Cut it into squares and serve.

To enhance the flavor and look of the marshmallows you can serve the cocoa version by simply rolling them in cocoa powder. You can even add natural food dye at the last stage of batter mixing to give a delightful tint to your mellows.
