Did you ever know that what we hear is a mysterious process, on autopilot mode, just as your breathing? Here are five things about ear that you never heard.
Your brain does the hearing
Have you ever wondered how do you actually hear? Ear depend on the brain to process sounds, they just collect the sound. Your outer ear acts like a collecting dish which grasps all the sounds and funnels to the inner ear. Your inner ear translates it into electrical impulses which your auditory nerves pass to the brain. Your brain then recognizes this as sound.
You ears have hairs
Did you known just like your head or back of your neck, your ears have sensory hair cells? Hair cells also known as stereocilia, present in your inner ear is responsible to how you hear. These hair cells translate the sound vibrations into electrical impulses which are then passed to the brain. When hairs in your ear die, you cannot hear and unfortunately, you cannot grow this hair back.
You can eat with your ears
Think crispy, you can actually imagine a mastication sound heard while chewing. This is exactly from where the words like crispy, crunchy and crackly are derived. The sound is actually a forgotten flavor sense. Synchronizing eating sounds with the act of eating can alleviate your eating experience and you can enjoy your drinks and food more. Also, there is a branch of nerves called the chord tympani which run through the middle ear and connects with the taste buds. So, you may lose your enjoyment of flavor, if you damaged your ear!

Your left ear is emotional and right logical
Ever since birth, your ears react differently to sound. Your right ear responds better to speech and logic while your left to music and emotion. Scientists believe that this is because logical things are processed in the left hemisphere of the brain while creative things in the right . So next time, when you need to take a logical decision, try giving a right ear to the words.
Hearing problem can make you feel exhausted
You have each ear on one side to reduce the chaotic environment and provide more balance quality of sound. Hearing loss can increase the chaos and disturb the balance. When you have a hearing loss, you have to concentrate more to understand, This explains, why grandpa’s and grandma's usually have their ears wide open and concentrated at one place. It makes you feel mentally weak and even drowsy.
Now, that you knew the importance of your ears, I hope you won’t take them for granted and take good care of them.
