Tips to help you quit smoking and keep it that way

We all know that smoking is bad for your health and the adverse health effects that the cigarettes have on the human body.

Yet, besides the fact that half the packet of cigarettes being covered by the statutory warning that SMOKING KILLS, it doesn’t manage to scare you away from smoking a few anyway. For the smart ones who do manage to quit or at least stay away from the habit for a bit, get discouraged and start again, or get encouraged to re-start the habit thanks to some peer pressure or in some cases, beer pressure!

We understand how hard it is for you to take that first step towards quitting smoking and giving the cigarette packets a miss and are here with a few tips to make sure that you maintain your vow of breaking up with the cigarettes.

Sip cold water from a straw – As weird as that sounds, it helps fool you into replacing the act of sucking on a cigarette and spares you of the cravings of lighting a cigarette. Have small meals too, so that you don’t feel the urge that often.

Another one is to brush your teeth regularly. One of the good parts of not smoking is that you have a better tasting mouth and you feel fresher. The smokey after taste and dark lips tend to go away. Brush your teeth more often and more times in a day so that you maintain that fresh taste and don’t feel like ruining it with a cigarette.

Don’t drink alcohol – Don’t drink if you’re trying to restrain from smoking, since it causes a break down in self control and more often than not you tend to get carried away and light one, for old time’s sake!

When you know you’re going to be faced with the urge of smoking, head to a no smoking zone like the movie theatre or a library where you can’t do it even if you want to.

Use regular exercise as a mood elevator so that you don’t feel like smoking and relieve the stress in a healthier way. Exercise has been shown to curb smoke cravings in even chain smokers.

There is nothing better than sheer will power guys, everytime you feel like smoking remember why you quit in the first place.
