We’re here to take you on a tour of this mystical land that many call, ‘The tummy’ and tell you what really goes on there, and who the good and bad guys are.
Whether its stomach cramps, a mild ache or the sharp pain that can wind you there are a number of causes for abdominal pain. Sometimes it could be a simple case of gas or bloating which can be pretty annoying but isn’t something that should be bothering you too much. Other causes could be a viral infection in the tummy, for which antibiotics should do the job or something that you may have eaten which causes food poisoning or indigestion like a few slices of cold bread right from the refrigerator and into your mouth!
More serious issues could include severe cases of constipation and/or Irritable Bowl Syndrome (IBS) which means that you need to visit a doc and start eating more fiber-rich fruits and vegetables as well as hydrating yourself better. Another reason for stomach cramps is that you haven’t been drinking enough water which results in these annoying cramps. At least 5-6 litres of water needs to be consumed every day, remember the body is 60% water after all! You may also be experiencing pain if you have stomach ulcers which can be quite a painful affair, and the doctor should be visited soon if pain persists over a day or two and you don’t feel that you’re doing too much wrong.
But how would you know when to visit the doctor or when to tuck in bed and sleep away the pain? If your stomach pain or irritation persists for over a couple of days or keeps recurring from time time then you need to get your butt to the clinic. Also remember that if there is pain when you touch your abdomen or it feels extra soft then it’s not a good sign and a doctors intervention is essential.
